Buildy Award, 2024
The Peale received a Buildy Award from the Mid-Atlantic Association of Museums in 2024. This national award recognizes the most outstanding recent museum building projects. The purpose of the Buildy Award is to increase awareness within the field, and by the public, of the value of museums and the need for their ongoing rehabilitation and expansion to serve future generations.
Phoenix Award, 2023
Preservation Maryland presented The Peale with a coveted Phoenix Award in 2023. This honor is bestowed on individuals or organizations to recognize projects demonstrating excellence in the revitalization of threatened or abandoned historic resources.
Excellence in Institutional Rehabilitation, 2023
Maryland Historical Trust honored The Peale with an Excellence in Institutional Rehabilitation Award in 2023. As part of Preservation Month, the Maryland Historical Trust presented 10 awards for noteworthy accomplishments in the preservation field, recognizing outstanding education, restoration and revitalization projects, as well as organizational and individual leadership.
Excellence in Construction, 2023
The Greater Baltimore Association of Builders and Contractors awarded The Peale and A.R. Marani, Inc. an Excellence in Construction Award in 2023. Marani’s sensitive renovation of the historic interior was in no way marred by critical enhancements to the 1814 building’s accessibility, including the installation of its first elevator and five, fully accessible, single-use restrooms among other amenities.
Stewardship Award, 2019
In 2019, the Baltimore City Department of General Services and The Peale Center received a Stewardship Award from Preservation Maryland for their joint undertaking to repair and rejuvenate ca. 1814 Peale Museum in the heart of Baltimore City. Accepting the award at the Best of Maryland Awards were representatives from the Baltimore City Department of General Service, The Peale Center, SM+P Architects, Ruff Roofers, and C&H Restoration.
Preservation Award, 2022
For the restoration of The Peale, we received Baltimore Heritage’s Preservation Award in 2022. Since 1961, Baltimore Heritage has recognized over 300 preservation and heritage projects in Baltimore. We give awards to projects and people who preserve and promote Baltimore’s heritage and historic places. This includes DIY rowhouse rehabbers, historic preservation crusaders, history curriculum writers, those who restore our city’s historic buildings and everything in between! This work and the people behind it are at the heart of historic Baltimore.
