Peale Birthday Bash

August 13, 2023 @ 10:00 am 4:00 pm

Free RSVP in Advance

Please join us at The Peale for our 209th birthday bash! It will be the biggest party downtown since we’ve invited our Holliday Street neighbors at Zion Church and The Real News Network to help celebrate! The event is free and open to the public from 10:00am to 4:00pm on August 13, 2023, and takes place at 225 Holliday Street. Guests will receive a complementary slice of Peale birthday cake at 1:00pm. Other tasty treats and beverages will be offered for sale from our partners at Dear Globe, including signature desserts and other curated refreshments. The birthday party is family friendly and great for people ages 1-100+. The schedule of activities includes:

All day: Eco-friendly, hands-on crafts in the garden for all ages: Create your own eco-friendly biodegradable stationery! Try your hand at making paper embedded with native wildflower seeds. Write on it, use it as gift tags, the possibilities are endless! Plus, try your hand at making paper seed bombs to throw onto neglected lots and medians. Sowing wildflowers supports a wide range of insects that couldn’t otherwise survive in urban or built-up areas. Plus, make butterfly and sunflower arts and crafts—a great way to experience the garden while being creative!

All day: New exhibitions on view, including The Guardians of Baltimore: Preserving Our Legacy, and Dark Beauty by Daisy Brown

All day: Birthday Story Wall for visitors to share their favorite birthday memories.

11:00, 1:00, 3:00pm: Tours of the building led by experts who helped with the building’s renovation from 2018-2022.

12:30-3:30pm: Beer and pretzels for sale in the garden at Zion Church (next to The Peale), along with self-guided tours of the historic building. A docent-led tour will be offered at 1:00pm. The German American Cultural Center will also serve wine, meats and cheese while refreshments last.

1:00pm: Birthday cake cutting and official happy birthday wishes to The Peale.

2:00-4:00pm: Catching up with the Neighbors: Storytelling with radio host Aaron Henkin, featuring special guests from Zion Church and The Real News Network, as well as historians Dean Krimmel and Jackson Gilman-Forlini. This program follows a group of Baltimoreans who were interviewed in 2017 as part of our original birthday bash.

***Parking is available for free in Zion Church’s parking lot, located at 148 Gay Street.
